The above engraving shows a sixteenth century bindery. The chap at the back is using a 'sewing frame' to sew together the sections of a book, whilst at the front a 'plough' is being used to smooth the edges of the book block once it has been sewn together. A 'laying press' can be seen leaning against a block in the bottom left of the picture, as a book is clamped together whilst being worked. Tools on the wall include knives, hammers and finishing tools. All of these are still used in traditional binderies today, as the tools and techniques of quality binders have changed little over the years.
I'm happy to say that the clothing fashions have moved on a little.

Managed by Glenn Malkin, the business is built upon his passion for good quality books and a long held interest in antiquarian books - especially old astronomy books!

Glenn was trained by Alan Fitch, a binder with many years experience based in Norfolk, and he has since developed his own style and approach offering a broad range of book binding solutions to his clients.
